ICE 2b:
2/13 :"Success" by Orisin Swett Marden
“Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”
"Advice" by Steve Jobs
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
1. How is success measured?
2. How is it that people could waste their time?
2/14: The Heart by Frank Morgan
“A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”
Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne
“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.”
1. What is something you must remember?
2. How is the heart judged?
2/15: Failure by J.K. Rowling
“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all—in which case, you fail by default.”
Magic by Roald Dahl
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
1. Why should you watch the world around you?
2. What happens if you live too cautiously?
2/16: Who We Are by Stephen Chbosky
“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there.”
The Perfect Ending by Gilda Radner
“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.”
1. What don’t we have the power to choose?
2. What is life about?
